What you will learn A two-day course where you will learn how to engrave a woodblock and print it using specialist tools and a relief printing press as well as burnishing by hand. Experience level No experience of relief printing is required. Experience with linocut or woodcut would be relevant for this course, but beginners/intermediate printmakers are welcome. Course programme Refine drawing/design and transfer to wood block. Learn how to use engraving tools to create tones and textures on a sampler block. Produce a wood engraving based on your own design. Final proofing and then a small edition. What is included All basic, starting materials such as paper sufficient for proofing and a small edition, tools and equipment are provided but you will need to buy your blocks directly from Chris, who will bring a selection for you to purchase. *Or you can order your blocks directly from https://www.chrisdaunt.com/ Preparing for the course You will work on a small practice block and then on a larger final block (approximately 10 x 7.5 cm - other sizes available at the workshop). You will need to prepare an image/drawing that considers tone and detail, but do not try to anticipate what kind of marks you will be engraving as the interpretation comes through practice. Artist research: Chris Daunt, Monica Poole, Howard Phipps, Colin See-Paynton, Simon Brett, Paul Landacre, Gertrude Hermes. *Lunch* - you will need to bring your own packed lunch or Cranstons and Waitrose at Dobbies are both just down the road if you want to do takeaway. Tea, coffee and biscuits are provided during the day. What next? By this stage you should have sufficient printmaking experience to become a Member and attend Open Access printmaking sessions.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations and refunds If you cancel your booking more than three weeks before the course start date, you will be eligible for a refund, minus a 5% administration fee. I regret I cannot offer refunds for cancellations made less than three weeks before the course start date. At this point I will have already started making preparations including ordering materials, and it is less likely I will be able to fill your place. I cannot give refunds for failed attendance due to sickness or external circumstances. Transfers If you would like to transfer to another course, you can do this free of charge providing you let me know three weeks before the course start date. Bookings cannot be transferred with less than three week’s notice but if you are unable to attend on the day, bookings can be transferred to another person. In this case, please let me know as soon as you can so I can update the booking. Cancellation by Linden Print Studio Linden Print Studio reserves the right to cancel or postpone courses. If this happens I will try to give you at least a week’s notice and full refunds will be given.
