Description A day course with an complete introduction to etching, inking techniques and variations. You will learn how to create a beautiful etched image using zinc plates and non-toxic materials. For beginners as well as Intermediate/experienced printmakers. You will learn about the principles of etching, and how to prepare and etch a plate. How to ink and print a plate will be clearly explained. The afternoon will allow you to create successive etches to develop lines or you could learn about inking à la poupée to create subtle colour transitions. Experience level No previous experience is needed for this course. Beginners are welcome, along with those who need a refresher. Course programme Prepare plate and apply resist. Transfer image and etch. Learn how to ink and print using etching press. Experiment with etching and inking. How to edition prints. What’s included All basic materials such as paper, tools and equipment are provided. Other materials and printmaking papers will be available to buy during the course if you would like to continue etching or printing at home. Course preparation Explore markmaking with a fineliner/sharp pencil to make the most of this course. Doodle/draw, create patterns and interesting marks and explore transitions between tone and strong/delicate/fine lines. You will be creating a zinc plate 100 x 100mm. Come with a printed image/drawing on paper that fits within the dimensions, flipped if possible. Artists to look at: Whistler, SW Hayter, Bronwen Sleigh, Goya. Cancellation Policy

Cancellations and refunds If you cancel your booking more than three weeks before the course start date, you will be eligible for a refund, minus a 5% administration fee. I regret I cannot offer refunds for cancellations made less than three weeks before the course start date. At this point I will have already started making preparations including ordering materials, and it is less likely I will be able to fill your place. I cannot give refunds for failed attendance due to sickness or external circumstances. Transfers If you would like to transfer to another course, you can do this free of charge providing you let me know three weeks before the course start date. Bookings cannot be transferred with less than three week’s notice but if you are unable to attend on the day, bookings can be transferred to another person. In this case, please let me know as soon as you can so I can update the booking. Cancellation by Linden Print Studio Linden Print Studio reserves the right to cancel or postpone courses. If this happens I will try to give you at least a week’s notice and full refunds will be given.
