Sustainability

Linden Print Studio has an embedded sustainable practice and can provide guidance for other printmakers/artists into making their practice better for the environment:

These are what we alway use and do:

  1. Water-washable linseed/soy-oil based inks

  2. Recyclable plastic for drypoint

  3. Vegetable-oil based cleaner

  4. Upcycling mountcard

  5. Recycled paper for printmaking

  6. Recycled paper for teaching resources

  7. Making paper from offcuts/scraps

  8. Wash and re-use rags and scrim

  9. Non-toxic etching using copper sulphate/ferric chloride

  10. Professional disposal of waste etching chemicals via certified company

  11. Vintage equipment – relief, intaglio and letterpress presses, guilllotine, lead type

  12. Recycling bins for plastic and paper

  13. Paper-based and biodegradeable adhesive tapes

  14. Food waste is composted

  15. Portable press hire

  16. Low-energy lightbulbs

  17. Insulated wallls and flooring and off-peak underfloor heating

  18. Minimise travel and fuel consumption

  19. To support those coming by public transport, I can pick you up from Dalston train station, Orton Grange Farm Shop (bus stop) or Dobbies (bus stop).

And here's how I can help:

  • Advice to help you refurbish and look after your printing press

  • Point you towards printmaking suppliers who don’t sell poor-quality equipment and materials (to avoid production waste)

  • Point you towards materials that are more sustainable, locally produced and long-lasting

  • Advise about processes that do not involve toxic or environmentally damaging chemicals and single-use materials

  • Help you identify community organisations and local businesses that have a sustainable ethos

And if you would like to talk through sustainability and/or have any suggestions for how we can take more climate change actions, feel free to get in touch.
