Extra-ordinary Update June 2023

Writer's picture: Vega BrennanVega Brennan

Thank you to everyone who has filled in the survey to help with next academic year’s planning. It has been very useful to get an idea of what you need. I've attached my new course summary and they are live on the website (www.lindenprintstudio.co.uk/courses) and ready for booking. Chris Daunt's Wood Engraving course 23 and 24 September is now fully booked.

If you have been using the studio for a while you might notice that the number of courses has been reduced. I’ve got some other commitments/projects for 2023/2024 so I need more flexibility. Here’s a quick summary of what is changing/staying the same:

Staying the same

Course fees will stay the same – £45 for a half-day course and £85 for a full-day course. Membership rates will stay the same, so £30 for the year, stepping down every 4 months, Health and Safety induction will stay at £15. Each 3-hour session is £15 + additional hours at £5 per hour. Members get 5% discount on all courses.

Changes

·I am running some more workshops on Saturdays

·I am opening up some workshops to 5 or 6 people so bring your friends!

·The Artist’s Development course is back but New! Improved! And the price is staying the same - £150 for 9 sessions over 12 weeks. 2024 dates: 9 Jan, 16 Jan, 30 Jan, 6 Feb, 20 Feb, 27 Feb, 12 Mar, 19 Mar, 26 Mar

New courses

·Tetrapak printing – using Tetrapak packaging to make beautiful intaglio plates. Sustainable and the plates can even be recycled after use. 18 Nov, 9 May, £85

·I am running two 4-session courses in the evenings from 18.00-20.00, Introduction to Intaglio with drypoint, etching, aquatint (7 Nov, 21 Nov, 28 Nov, 5 Dec). Introduction to Lino with single block, multiblock and reduction, etching with caustic soda (14 May, 21 May, 4 Jun, 11 Jun). It's £150 for the 4 sessions and all materials are included.

·Photopolymer etching – learn how to transfer marks/images to a solarplate and develop it in the dark room. Print using the Rochat etching press. Sat 22 June, 2024, £90.

Other stuff

Vega Brennan at Linden Print Studio

Following on from Jamie Barnes’ exhibition (ends 30 June), I’m having a show of my work from 5 July to 30 September. There will be a mix of old and new work for sale. But please come round and see Jamie’s work before it comes down. His work is really very special.

Calling all (future) letterpress printers!

I’m now Councillor for the British Printing Society (mostly letterpress printers). I would like to build a letterpress community in Cumbria, to support and connect people who print with letterpress/Adanas. If you are interested, thinking about getting involved in letterpress but don’t know where to start, or know someone who might be interested, please get in touch/share my details.

MATERIAL PROCESS exhibition at Kendal Museum

I want to tell you about a wonderful exhibition MATERIAL PROCESS that is opening this Thursday 8 June at Kendal Museum until 1 July. I belong to Art Crit North Cumbria and 9 artists from the group are showing at the People’s Gallery in the Museum. I’m not taking part due to being very busy but the work is beautiful, challenging and thought-provoking. Some pieces for sale, others not. It's that kind of exhibition.

Art Crit North Cumbria is an informal group of artists, meeting monthly to share and discuss their creative practice. They are advocates for innovative contemporary art in a rural context. Most are professional creatives by occupation, including fine artists, craftspeople, teachers, designers, curators, and students.

Preview Friday 9 June, 6-8pm, you’re welcome to come along. Here’s the link:

Finally, I've still got some places on my courses for the rest of this academic year:

I’m listening to ‘The Book of Love’, a track by Peter Gabriel, originally performed by the Magnetic Fields. Ahh… Give it a listen.

Have a lovely day.

Best wishes

Vega
