Happy New Year and Happy Chinese New Year for 22 January! It is the Year of the Water Rabbit. ‘In Chinese astrology, water means longevity and peace, and the Rabbit is a symbol of vigilance, wit, cautiousness, deftness, and self-protection.’
The image above is from the small calendar that I printed with Hilary Harrison, Laura MR Harrison and Catriona Archibald. Defnitely a lot of comfort food in there. So a good start to the Water Rabbit Year. I'm afraid all the calendars have sold out!
Andrea Kershaw is showing her work at Linden Print Studio until the end of March. Andrea completed her Creative Practice MA at the University of Cumbria in 2022. Her work documents her personal perspectives on the Ullswater Way using spit-bite aquatint. There are mounted and framed works available to buy. There are also prints with a Scottish theme. You’re welcome to call in, just give us a ring to check we’re open beforehand.
The Great Print Exhibition is opening at Rheged on 20 January. I’m not showing – looking to make more project-based work but there are lots of talented printmakers and inspirational pieces to see there.
For Print Studio members the next skillshare session will take place Monday 13 March. We will be messing around with wet strength tissue paper to create papers for chine collé, doing a bit of dendritic printing, suminagashi and brusho inks. £5 per person to cover materials.
I’ve attached the Course summary leaflet for people who have just joined the mailing list but there is much more detail on my website.
In addition to running the print studio. I’m cracking on with my own work, wood engraving, letterpress and more ephemera…if you want to see what I’m up to, you can follow my Instagram @vegambrennan or if you want to just see print studio specific stuff follow @lindenprint. I’m on 984 followers, I should perhaps have made it my new year’s resolution to make it up to 1000 followers but I’m not that way inclined. I’m quite slow at putting stuff on but I hope both accounts are interesting for you!
I think that’s everything for now – this mailing is short and sweet!
