Hi All
Somehow I missed sending out a May update so here’s a rare June one!
Things are afoot in the studio…
I’m starting a part-time PhD next academic year so I don’t know what my workload is look like. As such, I’m not scheduling any courses for 2025/6 until I have a better picture of what my lecturing/freelance/art-practice/study/life balance will be – likely to be a patchwork/merz-mess. I’ll send out another update in September with the new course programme.
If you’re an experienced printmaker, you’re welcome to join as a member and use the studio as open access. It’s only £5 per hour. Here’s the joining link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScFAvqM4sRzuEiJqJE3_-S0Mb14Xmc-Qr_xWe1Ijc-FjyzDTg/viewform?usp=sharing&ouid=100560636871093124579
Even though the form says September start, you can join now and use membership from now until end of August 2026.
If you’re looking for more printmaking courses than I can offer, I would highly recommend checking out Market Place Print Studio. Jack and Emily are fab and they have a lovely set up. https://marketplaceprintstudio.co.uk/
The Chris Daunt wood engraving course in September is full. I’m looking forward to working as technician to Chris and making cups of tea and coffee for everyone.
I’ll be programming the Artist’s Development course again for January 2026, again with Laura M R Harrison. Laura led a wonderful group this year and there’s a little waiting list for 2026. Again, I’ll let you know when I’ve got the dates finalised.
Exhibitions and events
Baltic Art Car Boot Sale, carpark behind the Baltic, Saturday 12 July,
I’m taking part in this, along with Laura M R Harrison, Amy Story, Susan Young, Catriona Archibald and Dave Gowers. Dorothy Ramsay will have her own stall, hopefully next to us. We’ll be selling a range of original artwork, including handmade prints, paintings/drawings and objects.
Sale of books, art materials and art, Linden Print Studio, Friday 18 July, 5-7pm, and Saturday 19 July, 11am-3pm.
I’m rationalising my book collection – will be mostly art books but also some random novels and other stuff thrown in. Also art materials and artwork, all going cheap, cheap, cheap. There’ll be strawbs and sparkling elderflower. Might as well make a do of it.
Amy Story, The People’s Gallery, Kendal
Why do we work? Can work be playful? Can play be work? Is art work?
Amy Story’s exhibition will be on from 13 Jun – 26 Jul and the gallery is open Thu – Sat.
Curated Cumbria
There’s a new Newsletter of arts events for Cumbria – with Cumbria Arts and Culture Network (CACN) and Intro PR.
I think that’s everything! Have a lovely June and hope to see you soon.
Best wishes
Vega
