Course bookings open! and ch-ch-changes...

Updated: Mar 1, 2022

Hello!

If you’ve not been to the print studio before, I limit nearly all courses to 4 people so you get a lot of press/tuition/support time. It’s not a huge studio but it is beautifully equipped and people seem to like it. I’m not big like Edinburgh Printmakers or Northern Print but I hopefully fill a niche and fulfil the aim of supporting artists in North Cumbria and the Borders. You’re more than welcome to have a chat before you book and/or visit the studio.

I'm only currently programming courses until the end of February. With cases rising, I didn’t want to programme the whole academic year and then find myself having to cancel and reschedule. I’ll programme the next chunk before Christmas and release the dates in good time.

I’ve revisited my pricing in line with the Artists’ Union and a-n recommended fees. I hope you’ll agree that I still offer value for money and as I’m doing this full-time from now on, I need to justify my time and take into account the increasing cost of material prices.

You’ll also note that I’m not running courses on weekends and mostly running them during weekday mornings in response to the survey I put out a wee while ago. This will also free up more time for outreach and courses in interesting locations. I am however, still happy to have you doing open access/1:1 or bespoke courses on weekends, just send me an email to check availabilty and to book.

Course Bundle

£115 for 3 courses

New! Choose any 3 half-day courses during an academic year and save money! This is a great way to learn a range of printmaking techniques and would be suitable for beginners/intermediate. I’ve scheduled the courses so that you can generally learn a range of Intaglio, Relief or Mono printmaking techniques over 3 consecutive weeks but you can pick and mix.

Suggested pathways:

Intaglio

Drypoint

Etching 1 or Collagraph 1

Etching 2 or Collagraph 2 or Aquatint

Relief

Lino

Letterpress

Woodblock

Monoprinting

Gelli

Mono 1

Mono 2

New! Membership

£30 year starting from September 1, 2021

What you’ll get:

· Only members are able to book Open Access sessions (£15 for 3 hours)

· 5% discount on all courses, including bundles

· Membership card and pack of handprinted letterpress goodies including a Print Police ID card (while stocks last)

· First preference on trips, projects and talks

If you haven’t yet done a Health and Safety Induction Session, you’ll need to do one for a one-off fee of £15. It only takes 15 minutes and can take place before your first Open Access Session.

Open Access with Technical Support

£15 for 3 hour session, 8am-10pm, weekdays and weekends

I will no longer be offering unsupervised Open Access (studio hire) but will be more flexible about dates and times for Open Access. You must be a Member and have done the Induction session to use the studio. Book via email.

Printmaking Crit Group (via GoogleMeet online)

Free, monthly, date and time to be confirmed but starting from September 2021

This is based around the traditional critique sessions that take place in colleges and universities and hopefully provides friendly, critical support to push your creative practice.

Hilary Harrison & Vega Brennan Open Studio at Linden Print Studio

1 September – December 31, 2021

Sale of ceramics and prints, cards and ephemera at the Studio, including our jointly designed and printed limited edition letterpress 2022 calendars with linocuts on the theme of ‘Solway Sea Life’. You can view the exhibition during normal opening hours – 10-5 weekdays, 11-4 weekends (but contact me on weekends to check). Second-hand art books and some art materials will be for sale too. 10% of profits from sales will be donated to Eden Valley Hospice. You can see more of Hilary’s work here: https://www.northern-potters.co.uk/artists/harrison-hilary/

Artists Development course

£100 for 8 sessions over 12 weeks, starting from 6 January 2022, limited spaces

This ever-popular course is back. For people looking to develop their artistic practice beyond and become more experimental, engaged and expressive. We use Julia Cameron’s The Artists Way as a starting point and it moves out into all kinds of exercises and activities designed to expand the way you think and tap into your inspirations more easily. For both the faint of heart, the fearless and everything in between.

1:1 tuition, printing press hire and bespoke courses/CPD for teachers

I’m scrapping Pop-Up Print as it didn’t allow enough time for people to produce a great set of prints. Instead, I am offering bespoke courses for a minimum of 4 people or 1:1 tuition either online or in person either at the studio or at location of your choice. Press hire can be included as part of your package. Suggested themes/techniques (in addition to usual printmaking techniques – see course leaflet):

Drawing Celtic patterns and then adding gold leaf

Drawing faces/people

Drawing skills

Gyotaku (fish printing)

History of art/printmaking

Make your own paintbrushes

Mokulitho (lithography on wood)

Origami

Painting skills

Papermaking

Perspective drawing

Photography

Photoshop

Sewing – basic skills: apron

Sketching the landscape

Stencil cutting

+ open to suggestions….

Just email me to discuss your requirements.

Accommodation

I am opening up the holiday cottage for short stay bookings (Monday-Friday or Friday-Monday) and can sort out a discount if you book accommodation + course. You can see cottage details here.

Finally…COVID precautions

Just to reassure you that I have completed risk assessments in the run-up to re-opening the studio. Ventilation, frequent cleaning and disinfection, and the wearing of masks while in close proximity will all be part and parcel of running the studio for the forseeable future. When you come to the studio you will be asked to leave your phone number for Test and Trace. Your safety is my safety and I take my responsibility to you very seriously.

I realise this is a verrry long blog post so apologies for taking up your time! All I can say I hope you are well, I hope to see you soon, and have a great Summer.

Best wishes,

Vega

ps. I am having technical issues uploading the courses to the website so please bear with me as I wrangle and swear. Should take a couple of days. If you’re keen you can always book direct by sending me an email or using the contact form.
