Wowsers, it’s already May! My timing for this update is not brilliant as Printfest has just finished but you can still see the list of artists and find out more about them on the Printfest website. I particularly enjoyed talking to the wood engravers David Roberts and Hilary Paynter, and Cumbria Printmakers such as Glenn Tomkinson, Penny Hunt, Marion Kuit, Katie Edwards and Richard Foster. It was also good to visit the new group space for printmaking run by Printshare Lakes in Queen Street. Do pop in if you’re in Ulverston.
There’s a few things I’d like you to know about:
Jamie Barnes’ exhibition of New etchings is still on at my studio until the end of June. It’s a rare opportunity to see his thoughtful and beautiful aquatints together and make connections between the individual pieces. I may be biased but I very much like his print of Forton Services.
In the Studio, I’ve been working on developing photo-etching and photopolymer relief for letterpress and embossing but it’s still early days and it’ll be a while before I start running courses on them. But you’re welcome to pop in and I’ll talk you through what it entails.
I've had to make some slight changes to the course programme till July as I'm taking on a bit more exam board work in June but it shouldn't affect any existing bookings. I've attached the updated course programme which runs until the end of this academic year.
For Members, next skillshare will not be until July…and I haven’t decided what it will be yet…email me if you have any suggestions…or we can just eat cake in the wood…
Membership has stepped down to £10 for the rest of this academic year, and £15 for a 3-hour printing session - that's cheap! And only Members can claim a 5% discount for any courses booked on my website. Email me if you've forgotten the voucher code. Think about all the prints you can make! And did you know that I have a two-bedroom holiday cottage across the farmyard?
There are a only couple of spaces left on Heather Young’s Mezzotint workshop (Saturday, 10 June, £85) and Chris Daunt’s Two-day Wood Engraving workshop in September (23-24 September, £160). I do a 10% discount for students and those on Universal credit, please email me and any info regarding this will remain confidential.
Over the next month I’m going to putting together next year’s course programme (September 2023-July 2024). I’d like your input and in return, you’ll be entered into a random prize draw to win an original print by me. Here’s the link to my short survey (just 8 questions), to complete by midnight 15 May.
And finally, this week is the last week to catch The Great Print Exhibition at Rheged, which finishes on 8 May.
Hope you are having a lovely Spring!
